The day is fitting, and before it ends I want to rededicate this blog to my best friend. Today was her birthday, today was Ruby's birthday. And I was at the Garden today waiting for Angela, Mom. Yes Angela, I know you would have loved that! I was so proud to share my garden with her and show off my Calaloo plot, just for Calaloo you know. I shared with her Calaloo and green beans, three kinds of mints and showed her where Jon has his garden. I know, I know you would have been proud. To see how your love for us all I still carry and I spread it, unconditionally. My friend Linsey, said it perfect after I shared my poetry with her: You also gave me your heart and your courage. I love you always.
Here's too you, Mom. With a last shot of Brandy and one for you old girl.

LOVE in the Garden
I feel the moment that will stay with me today is the moment, I felt this raising in my belly, that funny feeling you get, that is like Gas, or nerves or some say butterflies, as the "water rod" I held to it, moved, shaking towards the water source, that only Jane knew. I tried to hold it as steady as I could, all gathered around me, I tried to breathe as little as possible, and there! it wavered across to the water source, and "did you see that" I said, as the small that gathered watch the moment. The moment that my "water rod" found the source of water. "You have something there'" Jane said. And as typical, there is always one, the one who couldn't believe I found it and proceeded to push my rod away from the source of water. "There has to be one there always has to be one that is not happy with your discovery and showed it how he did. Today the second day of The Community Development Conference, and as I listened as every one told all the reason they came for this workshop, "Deep Gardening" with Jane, and where they work in this field of developing communities (spirits) yes I felt I had to insert that. For that is what his gardening with Jane in High Park became. It was a beautiful day, The second day of the Community Development Conference, so I knew and even Marion knew that I would be doing this workshop. So when it came my turn, I started talking about the Cross Cultural Women and Girl's Space Project and just had to stop my self, you know what Charlyn came for the chance to garden with Jane, and to see about some red wigglers and what a joy it was Gardening with Jane, getting some red wigglers and meeting 5 kindred souls. Garden friends are different, they are like knitting friends, there is an intimacy that comes with gardening with others and especially when you meet them for the first time. I have gain new friends, new terms and I plan to discuss them all here and yes I got to garden with Jane and I did get some red wigglers taht I had to harvest myself. I am truly blessed I am grateful for love. For the Jane the inspiration to start blogging again. To share again this work called gardening, this soul work.

January 2009
I am planning my garden plot already, I miss the smell of fresh herbs, the free moving as i bend over.
The weeding, the weeding that is so meditative.
The meeting of memories of Ruby and the feelings I get from seeing the first green peeping from the earth, I have raked and formed and turned.
Looking forward to the smell of warm earth, the touch of tomato branches against my arms.

The Garden Grows
I used to visit and revisit it a dozen times a day, and stand in deep contemplation over my vegetable progeny with a love that nobody could share or conceive of who had never taken part in the process of creation. It was one of the most bewitching sights in the world to observe a hill of beans thrusting aside the soil, or a rose of early peas just peeping forth sufficiently to trace a line of delicate green. ~Nathaniel Hawthorne, Mosses from and Old Manse
Gardening days have been few due to rain, rain and more rain, so our community garden group has not been able to meet. I was so excited to finally see my beautiful garden after a few weeks away. The beans are huge, that's them pictured at the top of my blog. Everything else is coming on fine, though I am sharing my lettuce/kale mix with bugs. I did manage to get some to make a salad, they were so tender, they melted in my mouth. My first meal with them was really rewarding, it's a shame you cant see the fresh Thyme on my Salmon.
